I teach both violin and talharpa (jouhikko) mostly in the Helsinki area though I also run some courses and teach at events further afield. As well as that, I teach social dancing jointly with Eva Väljaots as well as with Helsinki Cèilidh Band and Helstringy.
I graduated from Sibelius Academy with a masters in folk music complete with a pedagogy qualification. Prior to that I obtained a bachelors degree in Folk & Traditional Music from Newcastle University and I also have an ABRSM grade 8 in violin.
I believe learning music should always be fun and it’s never too late to start. Teaching supervisors have described my teaching style as patient, calm and encouraging. My specialty is teaching folk music from England, Scotland, and Ireland as well as bluegrass though I’m also happy to explore other styles with students. I teach predominately in English though can also speak some Finnish and Estonian. I’m happy to teach all ages and cross-instrument lessons are possible too along with singing folk songs.
